Hair Bow Holder

Every one that has “girly-girls” is going to love this! My daughter loves bows. She has a bow for every outfit. But she is only 3, so it is left up to me to keep up with them all.

I have found hair bow holders in store and depending on what you are looking for, can range anywhere from $10 - $50. I am a very cheap person…and proud of it! Lol. If I can do it my self and save money I will try!!

So let’s make a bow-lovers dream! And mine only cost me $2.47!! I had most of what I needed at home.

Materials you will need:

Wooden plaque (sold in craft section) or picture frame

Ribbon

Paint (I used acrylic)

Paintbrushes

Hot glue gun & glue sticks

Tab off of a drink can

I used a wooden plaque but this would also be cute to use with just a painted picture frame.

If you are using a wooden plaque make sure you sand all your edges so there are not any rough spots. Next you want to paint your base color. I used perfect purple. You will probably have to do two or three coats and let dry.

Next I used a rotary tool and wood burning tool and put my daughters name and the year (plus a cute simple flower) but you can just use paint if you don’t have these.

Cut three or four pieces of ribbon about a foot long. Once the paint has completely dried, flip the plaque (or frame) over and glue the ribbon pieces equal width apart.

Slightly bend the tab so that the top of the smooth side is up when laid on a flat surface. Glue the bottom half to the back of the plaque above the ribbons.

Hang on wall and attach your pretty ribbons.  

And trust me...it doesn't have to look perfect. My daughter loves it more because it was Made by Mommy!!

Both of my grandmothers have recently been diagnosed with cancer. So when I see a cancer ribbon I automatically love it!

 I have recently learned how to make these nifty little key chains and bracelets. So I figured why not make them for others.

These can be customized to any color (background and ribbon) and will even knock off shipping since they are awareness ribbons.

I absolutely love pot roast. Pot roast of all shapes and sizes. Huge pot roast fan!!

So when the hubby decided he wanted to cook dinner and pulled out the crock-pot first thing in the morning, I was more than thrilled to allow him to do so.

But I can’t keep this all to myself so I decided to share his recipe (no clue where he got it from)

Keep in mind that depending on how much pot roast you want is how much meat you need to use.

Hubby’s Amazing Pot Roast

Choice of Roasting meat (we prefer tenderloin)

1 Large Bell Pepper

1 Small-medium yellow onion

1 Bag of Baby Carrots

1 Bag of Petite potatoes (you can use large baking potatoes and cut into bit size pieces)

3 Cans of cream of Mushroom or Celery Soup

Trim all the fat away from the meat and cut into decent size chunks, place in large bowl. Cut up your bell pepper and onion into small cubes and add them to the bowl with the meat. Add your carrots and potatoes (cutting if necessary) Mix all the ingredients in the bowl. In the bottom of your crock-pot add two cans of your soup. Do not add water. Add your ingredients to the crock-pot and stir well. Add the last can of soup to cover all the ingredients. If it does not cover everything then add a small amount of water, just enough to cover. Cook on low-medium high (depending on how long you are cooking it) for 6-24 hours.

It is delicious by itself or you can serve over rice or with a side of mac-n-cheese.

Annual Ornaments

Every year we make ornaments with the kids. Last year it was gingerbread ornaments with the kids names (and they still smell wonderful!!!) This year we wanted to try something a little different.

So everyone has seen the clear ornaments at your local craft store. Some people load them with glitter. Some people paint the outside.

Did you know that they sell duct tape in sheets? Hello wonderful idea!!!! Being how our family is a die-hard UGA DAWGS family we chose black and red for our family ornaments. For my Sunday School ornament swap I used pink and green (I know….very girly) But they have many other colors and designs to choose from as well.

We took a clear ornament and used my exacto knife (Adults doing all the cutting of course) to cut the designs out of the duct tape. I placed the letters then let the kids choose where and what size “dot” they wanted.

They had a blast. And we got our wonderful annual ornament to remember the fun that we had :)

Kitty Cake



My sister gives me a call and proceeds to tell me that she wants me to make a cake for her friend at school. She tells me they want to give her a “Hello Kitty” cake with musical notes.

So sure, I say I will. I can do that, I’ll go and get one of the shaped pans and will be no big deal.

“We need it by Thursday.”

Well, there goes that plan! Seeing that it is Monday, I am stuck at work until 8 in the morning, and I have so much to get done that there is no way I can go get that pan. Thankfully I had all the ingredients I needed at the house. So I decided to just “throw” it together and hope for the best.

Now I can’t draw by no means…so actually carving a cake sometimes isn’t the easiest thing for me to do. I wanted to try and make this one good. I couldn’t send my sister to school with a crappy cake, could I?

So I set out to make my cake. I use a large rectangle pan I had at the house. And made a MARVOLOUS (if I do say so myself) marble cake. Even had the hubby draw out a kitty face on cardboard for me to use as a template. The hubby is a wonderful artist!! **Frame his art work for Christmas, what a wonderful idea!!**

Anyways, I made my icing and colored parts pink, and black. I did my first crumb coat and it really started to come together. After I let it set, I covered the entire cake with tip 16 stars and commenced to finish decorating.

I really should have taken more pictures with different angles because you can't see the music notes all along the side. But you can get the idea.

I have to say, it turned out better than I thought it would.

Winter Wonderland Bath Salt

Like I told you before, I like to try new things and make tons of “home made gifts”. So for Christmas this year, I thought what more would a woman want than a home spa day?? A day just to pamper yourself without spending a dime?? SCORE!!!

So I found a “recipe” for a bath bomb made from Epsom salt. I thought to myself YES!!! Just the type of thing I am looking for to put in my “spa basket” get everything I need and am SUPER excited to try it.

But…apparently if something can go wrong…it will with me!! But in my horrible bombed attempt to create a bath bomb (pun intended!!) I come up with a concoction for bath salt! Just as good right?? So even though I failed miserably at creating what I set out to create, I still came up with something “Spa Basket” gift worthy.

And don’t mind my packaging material, it is just what is used to store the entire batch in before it is separated for individual baskets.

Ingredients needed for Bath Salt

Epsom Salt

Water

Essential Oils (I used lavender)

Food coloring (Optional)

Large mixing bowl

In a bowl combine your Epsom Salt and water. For every cup of salt add 1 Tbs of water (or more) until you get a wet sand consistency. Add your oil to your liking. If you choose to add color, add a few drops at a time until you get your desired color. Mix well. Store in a tight container. Enjoy!!!!



Rotel Chicken Spaghetti

Ok, so I remembered the picture this time!! And there is definitely something to talk about. We tried a new recipe at home the other night. If you like Rotel Cheese dip, you too will find that this dish is absolutely amazing.

And I am being honest, when we first saw it we were a bit leery because it doesn’t look all that appealing. But boy were we wrong!! It was something close to heaven on earth. And if you are anything like me….you can melt from an amazing meal!!!!!

3-4 large boneless chicken breasts (or rotisserie chicken)
1 can (10 3/4 ounce) Cream of Chicken Soup
1 can (10 ounce) Rotel Diced Tomatoes with Green Chilies
1 clove garlic, minced or 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
 1/2 tsp. onion powder
1 tablespoon Margarine or butter
1 – 8 ounce Velveeta cheese, cubed
8 ounces spaghetti, cooked and drained

Cut up chicken into bite size pieces.In a large skillet melt butter or margarine. Add cubed chicken, garlic & onion. Cook over medium-high heat until chicken is no longer pink and no liquid is left in skillet. Stir in soup, cheese and Rotel Tomatoes. Reduce heat to low, and cook until the cheese melts, stirring constantly. Stir in spaghetti and pour into a lightly greased 2 quart casserole dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until heated through.

Something New

So I am going to try this blog thing. I am a career firefighter and a stay at home mommy all at the same time…well, sorta. I work my normal shift, but on my two days off I am a stay at home mommy. I love my life and my family. On my days off I enjoy making things at home. I cook, clean, bake, sew, and do anything that I think I would enjoy! I started this blog to keep track of ideas that I have tried and to get input on new projects. Hope you enjoy this adventure as much as I hope I will!!
